Air operated diaphragm pumps

Diaphragm Pumps or Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps (AOD or AODD Pumps) are positive displacement pumps powered by compressed air. This pump type uses a combination of a diaphragm (or membrane) and non-return check valve to pump a fluid.

When the diaphragm moves one way, the volume of the pump chamber increases. This causes the pressure within the chamber to decrease and draws fluid in. When the diaphragm moves in the opposite direction, the volume of the pump chamber decreases and the fluid is pushed out. The next time the diaphragm moves, it again draws fluid into the chamber to complete the cycle.

Diaphragm Pump Advantages

  • Portable and versatile
  • Seal-less pumps so no leaks
  • Self priming - suction lift
  • Variable speed - from 0 to maximum flow
  • Can run dry for short periods
  • Non-electric - suitable for hazardous areas

When to use an Air Operated Diaphragm Pump

Diaphragm pumps are efficient and very versatile. They can be used in a huge range of applications including hygienic, chemical and industrial. Diaphragm Pumps come in a range of materials including plastic, cast iron and stainless steel. They are suitable for highly viscous liquids, sludges or slurries - even if they have solid particulates. Diaphragm pumps are also ideal for acids and solvents.
